Ladies and gentlemen, the update we haven't been looking for.

Has that server reliable buffer overflow error been fixed for 1.6/CZ as well? Or do they only update source now?

When CS:S has the possibility of bringing in more money for VALVe than CS1.6... the answer is obvious.

Get used to not getting any new content until after HL2 is released. We're basically playing the first RC right now, so stop complaining for a while.

No, I paid for this game!! It's buggy as hell.

Now that we have all been duped into paying for the privillage of BETA testing the RC, it's about time Valve got their fat chubby fingers away from counting the ca$h, and start fixing some of the code in this game!!!!

They could have at least fixed bugs that have been here since the first beta release.

Note to the gullible: Half-life 2 is not being unlocked. Only CS:S is being updated, but needs to access HL2 files in order to do so.
HitmanCodename48#164:59 pm pdt - 10/25/04
i fucking hate valve. this is the 2nd time i've gotten the C++ compiler mallocblock error. precondition assertion fail my fist up your ass, gabe.

I guess you didn't really understand the point of there not being any major updates until the release of Half-Life 2, did you? We're playing what is essentially the first RC sent to VU. We probably won't get anything other than major server crashing bug fixes for a while.

That's all I needed to hear. I thought I was the only one who thought this was a RC and that when HL2 is realeased, so will the actual final game.

Again no, the point was taken but feel free to pontificate the fact again!

Well a fool and his money are easily parted. Enjoy your bug fest!

Yes.

See, guys, there's more to releasing content than just "Click, upload, whoop-dee-doo, new models!"

-There's the possibility of legal troubles from Vivendi.
-There's the fact that they may be other MORE IMPORTANT problems in CS Source, at least in Valve's opinion, as they may create a weak point in the app. I believe that buffer overflows may crash a server.

And don't bitch about lagginess. It isn't source, it's the server. The server handles all the load, from stats to the physics. It's the server that isn't too great, not the game.

Looking forward to see which new fps tweak cvars are now considered as cheats. I still haven't got it how come it gives me an advantage of cheating to disable the 3dsky, which provides 10-15 fps more.
Desert|Storm#276:21 pm pdt - 10/25/04
I know that the only time they will release new content is when HL2 is released but do you think they are at least working on the models and maps?
Canuckeh#286:48 pm pdt - 10/25/04
Yes! why would they just leave it? Do they want to lose community support? do that want to lose money? FUCK NO! if you want a refund then go get it and ill laught at you when people who actualy realised valve might have more important things to do first then please your Fat krispy kream eating ass and they get the nice clean game while you get you 60$ back.
happy fucking birthday

We're working on porting some more of the classic maps right now, currently de_prodigy is in the works. We'll be releasing this as quickly as they are completed.

We're also working on one original map, which will begin internal playtesting this week. This still means we have a fair amount of work to do on it.

We're also working on two updated player models.

Most of this is scheduled to be released in the December timeframe.

Militia is thanks. Not the shitty CZ militia, but the old school 1.6 one.
Scanner#327:26 pm pdt - 10/25/04
Thanks for the update, Erik, sounds like fun :). Prodigy fans can begin celebrating!

Btw, for those of you complaining about not being able to hit the models properly, cl_interp 0, cl_interpolate 0 seems to fix some of the "my targets' models aren't lining up with their hitboxes" issues for me. Little jumpy, but at least I'm not shooting at thin air unknowingly now :). And I look forward to the interpolation working a little better in the future (or at least giving the client more weight than it is now).

Sugoi#337:26 pm pdt - 10/25/04
Not to be an ass or anything, but I'd like to see the reliability of the hitboxes/lag compensation worked on first and foremost. I understand what part of this is due to the modified weapon behavior (which I also dislike), but I would think creating consistency of gameplay should be a higher priority than getting all the extra content out.

Also, I would like to see the recoil reworked to be less random and more like 1.6, which is highly controllable with experience. Still, the reliability of hit detection should be given some serious attention.

You paid for a HL2 preorder, the CS:S was extra. Be thankful they gave it to you at all and didn't leave you with de_dust for two more months.

You said something stupid, and now I'm irritated. I want my comfort back, you jerk.

Funny, I heard a rumor that CS:S was the only multiplayer component for HL2?
Hehe it was even more funnier when I read an interview with Doug Lombardi, the part where he said there is no HL2 DM planned.
LOL that was a knee slapper. Whew, thank god that just a rumor

IN PLAIN ENGLISH: HEY BUDDY..CS:S IS THE ONLY COMPONENT TO HL2'S MULTIPLAYER. LOL A BONUS? ROFL..WHAT A TYPICAL FAN BOY.

Thats not true. He (we) paid for a package (bronze/silver/gold). And that package contains HL2, CS:Source, HL:Source blah blah. So, CSS is not a free present for HL2 buyers. It's one of the things what we have paid for. So thats our very first right to whine about it. Noone forced Valve to release CSS when it's not ready. This is not our fault.

BTW, if whining is no good at all, how come whining about whining makes you cool? :)

As I already fucking said a few fucking months ago, it's fucking called POLITICAL REASONS. How fucking hard is it to understand that?
kyleb#388:07 pm pdt - 10/25/04
There are no extra player models in the steam cache. It isn't political reasons, they simply don't have them done.
